Getting to know Donosti by bike or on foot is the best way to get to know its geography and discover places that will remain in your memory forever

Three short rides that will take you to our best known beach with your sights set on discovering the most authentic parts of our city.

There is no better way to get to know a city than to let yourself wander around it. As well as discovering unexpected monuments and traditional shops, you can make Donosti your own and choose your favourite spots, which we are sure you will want to visit again in the future. And, finally, what could be better than getting to La Concha and gazing out over the bay for a while? Here are three walks that will get you to your destination every time:

Mr. Hulot's Holidays - by bike

If you feel like emulating the great Jacques Tati, we suggest a bike ride. From wherever you start, head towards Plaza Easo, the perfect place to have a drink on a terrace before getting back on your bike. You can also browse at a second-hand market or flower stall, or listen to one of the concerts at the bandstand.

From there, we go to what is known as the "romantic area" of the city, presided over by the Ayuntamiento, the Town Hall; we will find the Alderdi Eder Gardens, with its old still-working carousel; you will also go by the Benegas Perfumery, a temple of aromas that was founded in 1908 as a barber shop, in the most authentic English style, with bellboys, a dozen hairdressers and a fragrance section. A family business that has not stopped advancing with the times and that today focuses on the creation of perfumes. If you've worked up an appetite, have the absolutely unmissable fish pie pintxo at the Jarana Taberna. And if you've chosen the afternoon for your ride, head for the Paseo Nuevo: you'll see the sun set over La Concha, a true spectacle.

Wild - on foot

Like Reese Witherspoon, although a little less savage, this is a walking tour that we recommend you do in the morning. Mainly because it would be the perfect excuse to have a drink in the Reyes Católicos area, in a classic place like Udaberri, discover the Vallés, where the "gilda" was invented, or be surprised by a mini almond tree forest when you get to Pokhara. Afterwards, if you feel like it, you can stop to see the Catedral del Buen Pastor, dating from 1897, but inspired by the medieval churches of Germany and France. The sharp spire crowns the building and makes the cathedral the tallest building in Donosti, although it involves a bit of cheating on the part of the church. And don't miss its main façade, where you will see a work by Eduardo Chillida: "The Cross of Peace". Continue along Calle Urbieta, Calle Fuenterrabia or Calle Getaria if you feel like shopping, or go into the San Martín market if you want to see some of the city's best-known chefs choosing the delicacies they will later prepare. You can finish your walk on the seafront of La Concha beach, at the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián. On one side of the building, you will find a hanging platform where you can rest while you contemplate the views, and even take a swim. On the other, there is the GU cocktail bar. Check it out to come back in the evening to enjoy the evening and have a drink!

Walking Vengeance - also on foot

Agustín Díaz Yanes, the director of this film, has probably walked the streets of Donosti once or twice. Perhaps he has taken a stroll along the banks of the Urumea River, lined with trees all the way to the sea, and with Parisian-style buildings on both sides. If you choose this route on foot, you will come across the six bridges that link one bank to the other. You will also have the opportunity to visit Tabakalera, the International Centre for Contemporary Culture. The former tobacco factory, a belle époque building, has an enviable annual programme of music and dance performances, theatre and cinema, exhibitions and multiple cultural events. On the fourth floor you'll find LABe, a restaurant and laboratory for innovation and gastronomic transformation and a hub for entrepreneurship from which "innovative/disruptive" projects related to the world of gastronomy and food are promoted. And what's more, it has beautiful views of our city!

A little further on is the Zurriola bridge with its art deco lampposts, aka Kursaal Bridge, because it leads to the headquarters of the International Film Festival, Zinemaldia, the cube designed by Rafael Moneo. Cross it, walk a little way through the French gardens of the Plaza de Gipuzkoa and voilà! you will have arrived at the Concha...

These are just three possible routes, but if you ask at Zinema7 reception we can recommend many more. After all, we want you to end up as much in love with our city as we are.
